"They aren’t afraid to be different and accept others as they are. They are naturally brave to let themselves be and such attitudes, which had been hatred and even attacked sometimes in the preceding period in Japan, is leading this new era. This is a huge change of the world. I focused on those powers which make our era enter into a new phase in this show.”

"Each work is connected by the human experience such as anxiety and loneliness... At first, my main focus was portraits, but what I felt strongly as an artist and I thought I should do was to approach social issues. However, at the same time, I feel that it is important to connect with people's emotions more broadly and gain empathy, which is also important in expressing my theme."

Hikari will share the gallery with Italian artist Millo. Their exhibitions are supported by the Fondazione Italia Giappone (Italy Japan Foundation) and is part of the Japan-UK Season of Culture 2019-2020.
